Mauritius-based spirits distributor and producer Grays has partnered with EcoSpirits to launch Gecko Bay rum at Veranda Resorts.

Hotel chain Veranda Resorts became the first operator to offer Gecko Bay in the EcoTote format at the Grand Baie resort on 18 April. The rum comes in two varieties: Gecko Bay Silver, which offers fresh sugar cane aromas ideal for cocktails, and Gecko Bay Spiced Gold, which is made with selected spices and offers notes of gingerbread and citrus. The New Grove Distillery rums are made and distributed in Mauritius by Grays. As a sustainable choice, the rum is only available in EcoSpirits' 4.5-litre containers, reusable over 100 times, instead of glass bottles. Called EcoTote, the containers are surrounded by a durable blue frame and are equipped with a SmartPour system for efficient bulk filling. Once empty, the vessels can be reused and returned to Grays for cleaning and restocking. Each EcoTote is tracked on an app, enabling the product to be located and tracked, as well as its precise use and identification of any stock-outs. "The Grays team is delighted to have Veranda Resorts as a new partner in this circular bottling and distribution technology. This new collaboration eliminates a considerable number of glass bottles from the circuit, drastically reducing our waste," said Florence de Coriolis, rum brand manager at Grays. Grays has also collaborated with the EcoSpirits Oceans programme to support the removal of marine waste by contributing the profits from product distribution to the organisation responsible for cleaning up and conserving the lagoons. Earlier this year, Cointreau liqueur and EcoSpirits minority stakeholder Pernod Ricard adopted the company's dispensers for Absolut vodka, Beefeater gin, and Havana Club rum.
