Ethical drinks brand adds ‘craft’ gin to stable
The One Brand, the largest ethical drinks brand in the UK according to donation, has launched a new "craft" gin in World Duty Free stores nationwide.
Master distiller Sarah Thompson distilled the gin, which contains 10 botanicals, in an alembic copper still and before filtering it seven times. The bottles are hand-crafted in small batches in Sussex's Blackdown Distillery, and Thompson signs each bottle. The genus name of key botanical sage comes from the Latin word 'salvare' which means "to save". This ties in with The One Brand's wider vision to help the estimated 663 million people worldwide without access to clean water. The company hopes to use One Gin to direct some of the profits in the gin industry to helping fund water and sanitation projects across the globe Duncan Goose, company founder, said: "With the UK gin market making its biggest comeback since Hogarth's times, it was a natural step for us to broaden our drinks portfolio into this exciting new area, helping to drive our donation power and make a difference to the 663 million people worldwide who don't have access to clean water." Having raised almost £15 million for life-changing water projects, One is on target to raise £20 million by 2020, changing the lives of more than five million people. Launched officially in World Duty Free, One Gin is currently only available in UK airports, priced at £36.99 for one litre. There will be a wider opportunity to sample One Gin at the Tales of the Cocktail on Tour festival, this year being held in Edinburgh between 1-5 April.
