Empirical Spirits adds to RTD range
Danish distiller Empirical has expanded its selection of canned drinks with a new Mediterranean-inspired beverage.
Empirical’s Can 03 is available in the UK, starting with an exclusive six-week listing with London's Top Cuvée. With an ABV of 4.5%, Can 03 is made using carob, coffee chaff, fig leaf, andaliman pepper, lemongrass, lemon myrtle, and golden Yunnan tea. Empirical Can 03 is priced at RRP £5 (US$7) per 330ml can. Copenhagen-based Empirical was founded in 2017 by Lars Williams and Mark Emil Hermansen, who have both previously worked at the famed Noma restaurant in Denmark’s capital. Williams was inspired to create Can 03 while on a research trip in Ibiza with his head of research and development, Chris Stewart. The idea came about while the pair were sat under a carob tree, overlooking the sea, surrounded by fig trees. Empirical moved into the ready-to-drink sector in February 2020 with the launch of Can 01 and Can 02. Can 01 (10% ABV) is a lightly carbonated drink based on a spirit made from beet molasses and Belgian saison yeast. It is flavoured with milk oolong cold brew tea, toasted birch tea, gooseberry spirit, cold-infused gooseberry juice, douglas fir spirit and pomelo zest spirit. Can 02 (8% ABV) is made with the same spirit as Can 01, before being flavoured with cold-infused sour cherry juice, sour cherry spirit, keemun black tea cold brew, blackcurrant bud spirit, walnut wood tea, walnut wood spirit, pine cone kombucha and maqaw pepper spirit.
