Don Q releases Sherry cask-finished rum

Puerto Rico-made Don Q Rum has launched a limited edition blend that has been finished in oloroso Sherry casks.

The bottling, which will be available in the UK through distributor Mangrove, is a blend of five- to eight-year-old rum previously aged in American white oak casks. Once blended, the liquid is finished for one year in oloroso Sherry casks. Don Q Double Aged Sherry Cask Finish Rum has been created by sixth generation rum maker Roberto Serrallés and master blender Jaiker Soto. “Blending innovation, art and science has been characteristic of the way our family has crafted exceptional spirits for the last 154 years,” said Serrallés. “This unique ageing process has resulted in a rum that is complex, elegant and exceptionally pleasant to the palate." The rum is said to have an aroma of toasted oak, cherry, dried fruit and tobacco, and a flavour of charred wood, honey, toasted almonds, raisins, dark chocolate and melted caramel. It is bottled at 41% abv and carries an RRP of £35 (US$42). Don Q  Rum is produced at the family-owned Destilería Serrallés in Ponce, Puerto Rico.
