Diageo-owned Tequila brand Don Julio has released Alma Miel, an expression inspired by agave nectar.

Alma Miel blends both añejo and blanco Tequilas, with the former aged for at least 14 months before being finished in Crémant du Limoux wine casks and the latter distilled with oven-roasted agave honey. It is said to be ‘lusciously smooth’ with ‘honeyed aromas’ and notes of ‘agave honey, spiced orchard fruit, creamy caramel and rich roasted agave’. “Our love for the craft is what keeps Tequila Don Julio at the forefront of luxury Tequila and a force when it comes to sharing some of the most exceptional expressions with the world,” says Christina Choi, senior vice-president of Tequila at Diageo North America. “With the launch of Tequila Don Julio Alma Miel, we hope to inspire Tequila lovers who are exploring new innovations as we pay tribute to the spirit of Mexico through the agave plant.” The brand suggests serving the expression on the rocks garnished with an orange rind or neat. As part of the launch, Don Julio has collaborated with Mexican singer-songwriter Christian Nodal to create a film called Por Amor, which will be released in February. “As a musician, I am always looking for new and creative ways to connect and inspire people through Mexican culture,” says Christian Nodal. “I am proud to partner with Tequila Don Julio as they continue to push boundaries in innovation with the launch of Tequila Don Julio Alma Miel and showcase modern Mexico through the elements that connect us, like music and taste.” The expression is bottled at 40% ABV and has an RRP of US$99.99 for a 750ml bottle. Last year Diageo pledged to invest £4.6 million (US$5.8m) in water preservation schemes in Mexico as part of a wider sustainability goal.
