Dictador teams up with Penderyn
Colombian brand Dictador has created a vintage rum finished in Welsh whisky casks from Penderyn.
Dictador, known for its luxury and expensive rums, has released the two vintage expressions in collaboration with the Welsh whisky distillery. The first, The Dictador 2 Masters Penderyn Vintage, was distilled in 1991 and aged for 16 months in peated quarter casks at Penderyn. The second, The Dictador 2 Masters Penderyn Vintage 2000, was distilled in 2000 and matured for 16 months in Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks. The 2000 vintage has an ABV of 46.2% and was limited to 375 bottles, while the 1991 vintage has an ABV of 40.7% with 413 bottles produced. The 1991 has an RRP of €990 (US$833) and the 2000, €900 (US$757). Both have already sold out on Dictador’s website since their launch yesterday (2 September). The rums were developed by Dictador’s master blender Hernan Parra and Penderyn’s master blender Aista Phillips. A spokesperson for Dictador said: “Together, they have curated a new era of luxury and taste, showcasing their expertise and establishing a new benchmark in global spirits innovation.” The 2 Masters rums see Dictador partner with various producers on innovative cask and barrel finishes, across wine, whisky and Cognac. The partnership with Penderyn marks the 12th collaboration in the series. Previous collaborations include one with Royal Tokaji in 2020, where the two producers created a 40-year-old rum matured in Hungarian wine barrels. Situated in the South of Wales, Penderyn has had to stop production at its third distillery in Swansea, which opened in 2021. The pause was due to reduction in demand for premium products, cited for a slowing economy.
