Desi Daru creates British-Indian vodka
Vodka brand Desi Daru has launched two new ultra-premium expressions designed to celebrate the best of Indian and British ingredients.
Owned by British-born Indians Mohit and Aneet Singh, Desi Daru uses ingredients from the jungles of Maharashtra, India, and the English countryside. Mohit commented: "As British-born Indians, my co-founder Aneet and I wanted to create a vodka that celebrated the best of both worlds. “We wanted to create something truly special that would showcase the highest quality ingredients from India's Ratnagiri to the lush English countryside. The journey has been a labour of love, and we are thrilled to finally share Desi Daru with the world." The brand currently offers two expressions: Desi Daru Original, and an Alphonso mango-flavoured vodka. The brands flagship Original product is distilled seven times using English winter wheat and the purest mineral water. It is said to offer the creamy tones of English wheat and the smooth texture of the natural mineral water. Its ‘exceptional smoothness’ is described as being perfect for sipping as well as providing the perfect foundation for bold and memorable cocktails. The Alphonso mangoes used in the flavoured bottling are sourced from Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, and are prized for their superior sweetness and indulgent quality. Referred to as 'the King of Mangos' in India, the fruit is described as ‘the sun-yellow jewel in the crown of Desi Daru's flavoured vodka’, and offers a taste of the tropical. Mohit added: “The purity of the water and the indulgent quality of the Alphonso mangoes we use, distilled rather than infused, creates a full and smooth flavour. We believe Desi Daru is a reflection of us, and we are proud to share our heritage with the world through this unique spirit.” Both expressions are available to buy from Amazon for £35 (US$43.81) per 700ml bottle. Last week, Au Vodka was named the fastest-growing company in the UK.
