Cutty Sark Centenery Edition marks 100 years
Scotch brand Cutty Sark marked its 100th anniversary this week with a celebration aboard its namesake and the release of a commemorative expression.
The Centenary Edition is a blend of malt and grain whiskies, aged for 23 years, from some of Scotland’s best distilleries, with the blend marrying for 100 days in ex-Port casks. It has notes of caramel, chocolate, soft fruits and spice. Only 1,435 bottles are available. The bottle is encased in a gift pack designed to resemble a mainsail, with a white rope and golden eyelets in a nod to the Cutty Sark ship. The bottle itself is topped by a golden stopper in the shape of a ship’s cleat. Alongside the Centenary Edition, the brand has released a limited edition anniversary design for its original whisky. It also marked the occasion with a video advertisement as part of its Never Ending Adventure campaign. Manon Brochet, brand manager, said: “We are so proud to celebrate 100 years of Cutty Sark Blended Scotch Whisky aboard our namesake. “Brimming with flavours fathoms deep, our Cutty Sark Centenary Edition gives a real flavour of our whisky’s century of adventure. And we are celebrating around the world thanks to our Anniversary Edition and dramatic video campaign. “With the wind in our sails since 1923, we are looking forward to sharing many more adventures with Cutty Sark lovers in the years to come.” The Centenary Edition has an ABV of 52.2% and an RRP of £900/ US$1,000/ €800. Launched in 1923, the Cutty Sark brand was acquired by French drinks group La Martiniquaise-Bardinet in 2018.
