Courageous Spirits debuts 8YO King’s Inch
Glasgow-based Courageous Spirits has created an eight-year-old single malt to mark the opening of its new premises on Lancefield Street.
The whisky is the company’s first age-statement Lowland single malt and was hand-selected by the team at Courageous Spirits. The release is a vatting of Bourbon and Sherry casks, resulting in a limited amount of 1,500 bottles offered at 46% ABV. King’s Inch eight-year-old offers aromas of ‘heather honey, spiced oak and citrus’, accompanied on the palate by notes of ‘subtle sweetness, tropical fruit, dried raisins and ginger’. The new release is now available for £49 (US$63) on the company’s website. King’s Inch non-age statement whisky was launched in 2021 and is named after the old imperial measurement of an inch and a forgotten island in the Clyde. “Since its launch in 2021, we’ve known King’s Inch is special. The awards and customer feedback gave us real confidence in the spirit,” said Andy McGeoch, managing director and founder of Courageous Spirits. “We’re now at a point where we can experiment with casks and see how the spirit reacts. That, to us, is a really exciting prospect that will continue to bring the best out of our King’s Inch spirit. We really look forward to hearing feedback from our customers, good or bad.” Courageous Spirits aims to ‘produce world-class liquid in outstanding packaging from Glasgow to the world’. In addition to King’s Inch single malt, the company also produces Glaswegin Gin, which was developed, distilled, and bottled in Glasgow. In the future, the producer plans to break into global markets, targeting international territories such as Hong Kong, Myanmar and India, and it is currently recruiting distributors across the globe. New brand home The release of the eight-year-old whisky coincides with the official opening of the brand-new Courageous Spirits premises at 121 Lancefield Street, Glasgow. The new site, located on the outskirts of Finnieston’s cultural and creative centre, currently provides third-party services. Its goal is to consolidate dry goods storage, bonded storage, bottling, and distribution under one roof, effectively decreasing road miles and associated carbon emissions. “At Courageous Spirits, our team really takes pride in our work and pride in our city. Our brands continue to go from strength to strength, and having our new premises bring everything under one roof makes our future very promising as we expand the vision of Courageous Spirits,” added McGeoch. Courageous Spirits hopes to build its own urban distillery, with plans aiming to be announced later in 2024.
