Corazón Tequila releases new range
Sazerac-owned Corazón has unveiled its Expresiones del Corazón 2023 Collection, which includes two new Tequilas.
Produced in limited quantities, the line showcases the partnership between Casa San Matías, a family-owned distillery in Mexico, and Kentucky-based Buffalo Trace Distillery. Its flavour and tasting notes come from the use of ex-whiskey barrels to age the Tequila. The range features two new inclusions, as well as four returning releases. The two newcomers in the 2023 collection are the Corazón Weller 12 Añejo and Corazón French Oak Añejo. The Weller 12 is matured for 26 months in ex-Weller 12 Bourbon barrels, giving it a moderate sweetness and tasting notes of cooked agave and toasted vanilla, a silky-yet-intense oak finish. The French Oak is aged for at least 13 months in barrels that formerly held Old Charter Oak French Oak Bourbon. The resulting liquid has aromas of rich oak and vanilla, with a smooth and lightly-sweet taste offering hints of cooked agave, apple and caramel. Rocio Rodriguez Torres, master distiller at Corazón Tequila, said: “Our dedication to exploring the unique liquid that emerges from the ageing process drives our experimentation with new barrels. “We are thrilled to embark on this flavour adventure utilising the exceptional barrels from Buffalo Trace Distillery, allowing us to expand the Tequila landscape. “Offering aficionados an entirely new experience, these Tequilas unveil a symphony of flavours reminiscent of the liquid that grace the barrels before them.” The four returning members of the collection are the Corazón Sazerac Rye 18 Añejo, George T Stagg Añejo, William Larue Weller Añejo, and Artisanal Small Batch Blanco Tequila. The range is now available in limited quantities at select retailers, bars and restaurants across the US. All six Tequilas are 40% ABV. The RRP for the Artisanal Blanco is US$59.99, while the rest of the range sells for US$79.99 per bottle. Each expression is sold separately in the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection’s bottle with a cork stopper and handwritten label specifying the barrel, bottle number and date of bottling.
