Composition blends rum with Moscatel

Blended rum brand Composition Spirits has partnered with importer Emporia Brands as it enters the UK market.

Composition Spirits enters the UK spirits scene with its Composition N°1, a blend of three aged rums: an eight-year-old from Barbados, an eight-year-old from Venezuela, and a five- to eight-year-old from Nicaragua, which are combined with a 44-year-old Moscatel from Malaga, Spain. The blend doesn’t contain artificial flavours, colours or added sugar and is crafted in small batches and limited editions. Renaud de Bosredon, founder and master blender of Composition Brands, got the idea for the brand in 2016, when he stumbled upon a Colombian rum distillery storing barrels of Moscatel wine. Inspired by the distinct flavours of rum and sweet wine, de Bosredon proposed blending rum and Moscatel for ‘an entirely new sipping experience’. “I'm thrilled to introduce Composition Spirits to the UK. I've spent the past 20 years working in the London bar industry, and I couldn't be more excited to begin this new journey from here," said de Bosredon. "Composition N°1 is the result of years of research and refinement in search of the perfect blend; with the consumer in mind, I wanted to bring back the simple pleasure of sipping exceptional spirits. We thank Jack Rackman and the Emporia team for their trust and support." Composition N°1 offers aromas of 'rich sultanas, dried fruit, chocolate, and toffee' on the nose. The palate is highlighted by 'maple sweetness with warm oak, dates, cacao and vanilla, revealing treacle, coffee, and bitter chocolate'. The brand aims to 'challenge traditional spirits categories, question conventional boundaries and reimagine and harmonise unique flavours from diverse cultures' by creating a new category aside from the flavoured drinks classification. Rackham, managing director of Emporia Brands, expressed his enthusiasm: "I love what Renaud created. It's a brand that doesn't fit into any conventional spirit category. Still, the end result is a delicious composition, and we are excited to be able to offer something truly unique to our customers." Composition N°1 is now available in the UK through Emporia Brands. The spirit drink is offered at 37% ABV in 700ml bottles. This year, Emporia has launched multiple brands and new editions in the UK, including Rémi Landier Cognac, Distilleries et Domaines de Provence's Elisir herbal liqueur, and Polish Wyborowa Cherry Vodka liqueur.
