Coastal alcohol-free ‘spirit’ launches in UK

A former surf instructor has launched an alcohol-free botanical ‘spirit’ inspired by the flora and fauna found along the Cornish coastline.

Alistair Frost founded non-alcoholic 'spirit' brand Pentire in Port Isaac, Cornwall, UK, as a “celebration of the plant life found on our surrounding headlands”. The brand’s first release, called Pentire Adrift, is flavoured with rock samphire, sea purslane, sage, and sea rosemary. It is free from added sugar, artificial colours and artificial flavourings. Frost said: “Through research and experimentation with local botanists, distillers and brewers, we have created our first non-alcoholic 'spirit', Adrift, which captures the botanical range, and the flavours they deliver through careful distillation. “I wanted to bottle the coastal experience. Something which could be enjoyed in a bar, pub, or restaurant, as well as at home or somewhere wild and remote. “We believe in adventure, exploration and independence, and to live life to the fullest means being ready, come dawn or dusk, for the activities that excite, challenge and fulfil you. Drinking shouldn’t hold you back from the adventures of tomorrow.” Pentire is distilled, bottled and labelled by hand, and the company will donate a percentage of its proceeds to local sea conservation charities. Available online at pentiredrinks.com, Pentire Adrift is priced at £26.80 (US$34) per 700ml bottle.
