Clase Azul unveils annual Day of the Dead Tequila

Tequila brand Clase Azul has released the third edition of its annual Nuestros Recuerdos (‘Our Memories’) range.

The new Tequila, called Clase Azul Tequila Día de Muertos Edición Limitada Aromas, is part of a limited edition range that debuted in 2021. Aromas pays tribute to Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead), in particular the essence of cempasúchil blossoms, a ‘sharp, herbal’ fragrance that the brand says is central to the festival’s longstanding traditions. The decanter features the cempasúchil blossom, with an illustration by Mexican artist Jimena Estíbaliz. The packaging also comes with an 24-karat-gold ornament, which was hand-made by Mexican artisans from the Milagros de Latón workshop. The expression will be available at the brand’s two boutiques in Los Cabos, Mexico, from 20 October. The one-litre decanter has an ABV of 40% and an RRP of US$1,450. Master distiller Viridiana Tinoco undertook a 25-month ageing process for the release, with the añejo Tequila starting in American whiskey casks before being finished in Armagnac casks. Tinoco said: “For this release, I selected casks which had previously contained Armagnac, a spirit with controlled designation of origin and the oldest in France. “These casks’ unique character results from their provenance, Bas-Armagnac, where grapes grown in siliceous-clay soil end up imparting fine and complex fruit notes to the spirit. “I opted for this kind of cask because Armagnac is a product that aligns with the values of Clase Azul México; its small-scale production reflects the history and heritage of the region where it’s produced and ensures the transmission of ancestral knowledge and traditions.” The Tequila has aromatic notes of peach, pear, raisin, candied walnut, toasted wood and clove; as well as tasting notes of peach, walnut, clove and cacao with a finish of cacao and cinnamon. Previous releases in the Nuestros Recuerdos series include Sabores in 2021 and Colores in 2022, which were dedicated to the flavours and colours of Día de Muertos respectively. Earlier this year, Clase Azul was awarded The Butterfly Mark for a second time, highlighting its continued commitment to sustainability in the luxury sector.
