Casa Lumbre creates liqueur for Margaritas
Mexican spirits producer Casa Lumbre has released an orange liqueur designed to be used in Margaritas, called Alma Finca.
The super-premium expression is said to ‘set a new Mexican standard’ for Margaritas and ‘inspire new opportunities for authentic Mexican mixology’. “The Margarita is the world’s most popular cocktail, and it is proudly Mexican, and now, with Alma Finca Orange Liqueur, people can enjoy it with all Mexican ingredients,” said Adhel Martinez, national ambassador. “With rich flavours, Alma Finca Orange Liqueur also adds new layers to the Margarita as well as other classics that call for orange liqueur such as the Cosmopolitan and White Lady.” The 40% ABV liqueur is made using a combination of fruit and spices from the Yucatán Peninsula. The expression uses sweet and bitter orange peels, fresh Persian lime leaves and citrus blossoms, and local spices that are harvested seasonally from October to December in the Mexican city of Oxkutzcab. Each ingredient is macerated separately for five days. “Casa Lumbre is synonymous with innovation, and Alma Finca Orange Liqueur is a continuation of that commitment to artisanal values and sharing our love of the different terroirs and flavours of Mexico with the world," added master distiller and co-founder Iván Saldaña. “Our newest creation allows us to showcase the essence of Yucatán, whose rich and bountiful flavours are still influenced by its abundant culture and history. It is the citrus capital of Mexico and our inspiration for new Mexican mixology creations.” The liqueur takes its name from the Spanish words ‘alma’, meaning soul, and ‘finca’, which means estate. The expression is described as the ‘perfect combination of sweetness, subtle bitterness and a hint of spices that ends with a lasting finish of orange and lime flavours’. It is said to contain no additives or flavourings. Alma Finca Orange Liqueur has launched in select markets and will begin rolling out nationwide in Mexico. It is priced at RRP US$34.99 per 700ml. Casa Lumbre is also behind the creation of Nocheluna sotol in partnership with Lenny Kravitz, Montelobos and Ojo de Tigre mezcals, plus the Ancho Reyes and Nixta liqueurs, and Mexican whisky Abasolo. French firm Pernod Ricard owns a minority stake in Nocheluna and Abasolo, and made an undisclosed investment in Ojo de Tigre in 2020. Italy’s Campari Group acquired a majority stake in Montelobos and Ancho Reyes for US$35.7 million in October 2019.
