Camus unveils ocean-matured Cognac

Cognac house Camus is preparing to launch an expression that underwent a period of maturation at sea, called Camus Caribbean Expedition.

After four years of maturation in Cognac, France, at the end of 2018 Camus loaded 10 sealed casks of Cognac onto the De Gallant tall ship that would sail through the transatlantic route that leads to Barbados in the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies. The trip was made possible due to a partnership between Camus and TOWT, a French company that uses traditional maritime transportation by wind propulsion. After 45 days at sea, the casks arrived in Bridgetown and were received by Richard Seale, master distiller of Foursquare, to undergo one more year of maturation in tropical climate conditions. Camus believes the Cognac’s exposure to numerous environmental factors, such as motion, temperature change, humidity and air pressure, have enhanced its aromatic notes. Tasting notes include aromas of banana, pear, coco bean and rancio, leading to flavours of exotic fruits and soft sultanas on the palate. A total of 4,500 bottles of Camus Caribbean Expedition will be released on 1 September 2020. The Cognac has been bottled at 45.3% ABV and will be priced at RRP €109 (US$124).
