Cab-ron rum to launch at BCB

Qantima Group is to debut Cab-ron, a blend of rums from four countries, at Bar Convent Berlin (BCB) next week.

The Sherry cask-finished expression features a mixture of extra-aged rums from the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Guatemala and Barbados. “At Cab-ron, we use 250-litre barrels seasoned with Oloroso Viejo Seco, Bourbon and Pedro Ximénez, which have rested patiently to give way to a unique, aged wood that gives us natural tones and exclusive aromas arising from the combination of oak and Sherry wine,” said Manuel Villa, CEO of Qantima Group. Each rum chosen for the blend is distilled in its country of origin before being exported to Spain for maturation. “Once in Spain, we decide in which barrels each of them will mature, at what alcohol level and for how long,” Villa explained. The rum is blended continuously, with all barrels checked and hand-selected once a year. The variety of woods with different origins and finishes give Cab-ron its mahogany colour and ‘copper reflections’, as well as its aroma of fresh spices, with soft touches of liquorice. Reminiscent of leather and tobacco leaves, it is ‘dry and tasty’, with ‘an unexpected finish’. The rum is unfiltered and created without additives. The bottle was designed by José Piñero, an artist who has worked for Michelin-starred chefs such as Dabiz Muñoz and the Adriá brothers. The design is inspired by piracy, with the bottle simulating a white skull made from recycled porcelain flakes, which is intended to evoke the idea of sugarcane. The box features a treasure map that traces a route through the rum’s four countries of origin. The map is hidden until activated by body heat. The 40% ABV rum will launch on 10 October. Part of the profits obtained from Cab-ron’s sale will go to the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, intended to finance research projects into Alzheimer’s disease. The bar community will meet at BCB from 9-11 October at Exhibition Centre Berlin for three days of networking opportunities, educational seminars and guest shifts.
