Bunnahabhain releases 32YO whisky
Single malt Scotch whisky brand Bunnahabhain has partnered with The Whisky Exchange to release a whisky that's been matured in a single oloroso sherry butt for more than three decades.
Just 537 bottles spirit have been made, each retailing on The Whisky Exchange for £2,000 (US$2,505). Bottled in 2023 and sitting at 54.8%, the Bunnahabhain 1990 has layers of sticky caramel and sweet spice, thanks to its 32-year ageing process, which is said to 'complements the distillery’s character without overpowering it'. With an 'unparalleled flavour profile', it is said to offer a 'rich backdrop of coffee, well-worn leather and dried fruit', lending to notes heavy on incense spice and rum-soaked dried fruits, with a lingering rancio finish. Just over a year ago, the remote Islay distillery, known for its unpeated malts, also unveiled its second 12-year-old whisky, inspired by its Warehouse 9 cask collection. French drinks producer Pernod Ricard acquired The Whisky Exchange for an undisclosed sum in 2021. The store was founded by brothers Sukhinder Singh and Rajbir Singh. The pair are building a distillery on Islay. In July this year, The Whisky Exchange launched a distillery school in London to offer blending and distilling experiences.
