Brugal introduces Maestro Reserva
Ultra-premium rum Maestro Reserva will be a permanent addition to the Brugal portfolio and comes in a bespoke glass decanter.
Dominican rum brand Brugal has announced the release of Maestro Reserva, crafted by fifth-generation maestra ronera Jassil Villanueva Quintana. The new rum is made using a proprietary cask-toasting technique known as dark aromatic toasting. “My family deeply embraces the elegance and soul of Brugal rum, and I’ve absorbed a wealth of wisdom from the generations of maestro roneros who came before me,” Quintana said. “By leveraging this knowledge and my unwavering passion, all while paying homage to the Brugal family legacy, I’ve crafted a rum that is ‘moment perfect’. My hope is that Maestro Reserva graces all of life’s big celebrations, alongside cherished ones, forging moments that will endure for centuries to come.” Maestro Reserva is aged in American Sherry oak casks, which are then emptied and toasted before being refilled and allowed to further mature in the Dominican sun, producing a spirit with notes of vanilla, caramel, dark chocolate, and dried fruits with a hint of toasted nuts and orange peel. The new permanent addition to the Brugal lineup is bottled at 41.2% ABV and priced at US$200. Maestro Reserva is presented in a bespoke glass decanter with fully recyclable secondary packaging. It is available in Florida, Texas, and New Jersey, as well as select US duty-free shops, with expansion to come later this year. Brugal, which is owned by Edrington, last released a cacao-inspired rum as part of its new Colección Visionaria range in August 2023. That rum likewise used a cask-toasting process, where hand-picked Dominican cacao beans were toasted in a virgin European oak before the casks were filled.
