Brother’s Bond adds 7YO bonded Bourbon
The bottled-in-bond expression pays homage to American distilling history, and debuts a new three-grain mash bill for the brand.
Given its name, it was perhaps only a matter of time before Brother’s Bond released a bottled-in-bond whiskey, and now its founders, actors Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, have done just that. The latest extension of their Brother’s Bond line was aged for seven years and follows the standards of the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897. “We are so proud to be able to bring this product to whiskey enthusiasts, expanding our portfolio of expressions,” said Wesley. “Bottled in Bond is the epitome of what we strive for as a brand – unrivalled quality while paying homage to the rich heritage and tradition of American whiskey-making.” The Bottled in Bond Act specifies that whiskey be bottled at 50% ABV, made by one single distillery in one single distilling season and aged for a minimum of four years. The whiskey is made at Indiana’s MGP distillery from a mashbill of 51% corn, 39% rye, and 10% malted rye and is priced at US$60. On the nose, it offers vanilla, toasted oak, sweet caramel and baking spice, while the palate shows notes of butterscotch, toffee, and a hint of maple syrup. The whiskey will be available nationwide and online via ReserveBar. In June, Somerhalder and Wesley joined editor Melita Kiely on the debut episode of The Spirits Business Podcast, where they discussed how a friendship formed on the set of The Vampire Diaries led to a love of whiskey and eventually becoming business partners. “We strive day in and day out with a tiny team with an enormous amount of experience to make something that is beyond special,” Somerhalder said during the episode. The bottled-in-bond expression joins a range that includes a straight Bourbon, a cask-strength Bourbon, a blended rye, and a regenerative grain straight Bourbon.
