Bowmore targets China with Dragon Edition
Islay distillery Bowmore has launched the first edition in a new series of single malts inspired by creatures from Chinese mythology.
Bowmore 36 Year Old Dragon Edition is the first release in the four-part series. Aged in the oldest warehouse in the Scotch whisky industry – No.1 Vaults – the single malt has been selected from the same parcel of Sherry casks used to create Bowmore 30 Year Old Sea Dragon, which was exclusively released in Asia in 2006. “This new expression is a homage to the 30 Year Old Sea Dragon that’s been much loved and collected by Bowmore fans across China,” said David Turner, Bowmore distillery manager. “Born from an island that is rich with heritage and legends, Bowmore is celebrating the legendary creatures of Chinese mythology that are the protectors of people – just as Bowmore has protected and matured this precious liquid for 36 years. We’ve taken this amazing legacy and renewed it for the next generation of whisky drinkers”. Only 888 bottles of the single malt will be exclusively available in China during the Whisky L festival in Shanghai and through select retailers. It is bottled at 51.8% abv and carries an RRP of US$2,000. Last year, Beam Suntory-owned Bowmore launched one of its rarest whiskies to date – a 52-year-old expression.
