Borders Distillery releases Navy Strength Gin

Scotland's Borders Distillery has debuted a limited edition Navy Strength Gin that clocks in at 51.7% ABV.

The overproof expression is made using locally sourced barley, grown within 33 miles of the distillery, which is located in the Scottish Borders region of Scotland. Kerr’s special malt barley spirit base is distilled from a specially-commissioned Carterhead still, and lends Kerr’s Navy Strength Gin a ‘distinctive’ full and rounded character with juniper and citrus notes on the nose and a spicy hint of liquorice in its finish. “There is much greater intensity of flavour with the higher ABV, which means you only need a small measure to get the same impact,” said John Fordyce, co-founder of the distillery. “With this gin, the impact really is in the distinctive and delicious mouth-filling taste and texture that comes from our own spirit and the distillation process, which effectively extracts over steam all the wonderful nuances of flavours from the botanicals.” The Kerr’s Navy Strength Gin is the first in a series of experimental releases by The Borders Distillery, and has been produced in a limited run of 2,022 bottles. The gin is presented in a rich blue paperless glass bottle that has been branded using ‘state-of-the-art’ printing technology from Scottish company Image on Glass. Kerr’s Navy Strength Gin complements The Borders Distillery’s core range, which features Lower East Side and Clan Fraser blended whiskies, Puffing Billy Steam Vodka and Kerr’s Gin. The 700ml bottles are available to purchase online from the distillery for an RRP of £50 (US$59.26). Last month, we announced the results of The Gin Masters 2022 first tasting, which saw four brands receive Masters medals for their navy strength expressions.
