Berry Bros embraces rum diversity with new bottlings
London-based spirits merchant and bottler Berry Bros & Rudd has extended its new Classic Range with the introduction of four rums. The new expressions – selected by Berry Bros & Rudd’s spirits buyer, Doug McIvor – hail from Nicaragua, Guatemala, Jamaica and Barbados. “I look for balance and complexity, maturity and texture – for excellence,” said McIvor. “Equally, age is not king: maturity counts for much more. “While there is beauty in a cask that, over time, has breathed its youthful vigour to the angels, embracing the oak to find harmony and great balance; the oldest may not be the most complex, the most perfectly poised." The rums are said to showcase a “breadth of styles from the world of rum” at an “accessible price point” of £28 (US$34) per bottle. All of the rums are bottled at 40.5% abv. The Classic Range also includes four no-age-statement Scotch whiskies: Speyside Blended Malt, Islay Blended Malt, Sherry Cask Matured Blended Malt and Peated Cask Matured Blended Malt. All are bottled at 44.2% abv and cost £32 (US$39). In addition to bottling spirits, Berry Bros owns a number of brands, including No.3 London Dry Gin, Penny Blue Mauritian rum and The King’s Ginger Liqueur. In April this year, Berry Bros launched the spiced rum brand Spice Hunter in the UK.
