Ballantine’s pays tribute to Elton John and John Lennon
Scotch whisky brand Ballantine's has extended its True Music Icons collection with two limited edition bottle designs.
The latest editions to the brand's True Music Icons collection honour British music legends Elton John and John Lennon, and will feature on bottles of Ballantine's Finest. The True Music series celebrates artists who 'forge their own path, stay true to who they are, and do things their own way'. The labels honour Elton John, one of 'the most iconic solo artists in history', known for his chart-topping hits, songwriting, and significant influence on popular culture, and The Beatles founder John Lennon, who also changed history with his music. The True Music Icons' John Lennon Edition bottle design incorporates Lennon’s official logo, self-portrait sketch, and iconography, while The Elton John Edition is inspired by his live performance at Dodger Stadium, in Los Angeles, in 1975. The editions also celebrate the friendship between the pair, culminating in Lennon’s single release of Whatever Gets You Thru The Night, featuring John, which was performed live at Madison Square Garden 50 years ago in 1974. Paul-Andre Vacheron, global marketing director for Ballantine’s at Chivas Brothers, commented: “Ballantine's has a rich heritage in music and what better way to celebrate a decade of our True Music platform than by paying tribute to two of the 20th century's most revered music icons on our iconic Finest bottle. "Both Elton John and John Lennon are artists who are all about doing things their way. They have contributed to music culture and defined it by staying true to who they are – a mindset that reflects the spirit of what Ballantine’s stands for, inspired by our pioneering founder George Ballantine. We look forward to seeing these collectable designs rock out on shelves around the world.” The Ballantine’s True Music Icons: Elton John and John Lennon limited-edition bottles will be available for purchase in markets worldwide and on The Whisky Exchange from 23 September. The launch follows last year's music-themed limited releases dedicated to rock bands AC/DC and Queen. Ballantine's also collaborated with Wu-Tang Clan frontman RZA on a whisky earlier this year.
