58 and Co creates terroir-led olive oil vodkas
London-based distillery 58 and Co has collaborated with Citizens of Soil for a second time, following its first sold-out olive oil vodka.
The two brands’ first collaboration debuted in November 2023 as part of 58 and Co’s Co-Lab series, which sees it partner with ‘like-minded’ companies. Other products in the range include a shochu and a vermouth. The new release features two expressions that both use repurposed single-estate extra virgin olive oil from Citizens of Soil but from different harvests, creating two ‘distinctively different vintages’. The olive oils, which are taken from Citizens of Soil’s Greek 2022 and Spanish 2022/23 harvest, are macerated and cold vacuum distilled with 58 and Co’s vodka, which is triple copper-distilled from wheat sourced 30 miles from the distillery. 58 and Co Olive Oil Vodka Greece 2022 features olive oil harvested in November 2022 by the Chrisoulas family in Sitia, Zakros, Crete. On the nose, it offers ‘violet, green peppercorn and wildflower’, followed by ‘marigold, pear and green bell pepper’ on the palate. The finish is ‘creamy, bright and fresh’. To showcase its ‘flavour and clean complexity’, the brand suggests serving it in an ice-cold Dirty Martini. Meanwhile, 58 and Co Olive Oil Vodka Spain 2022/23 is made with olive oil harvested by the Segura Gómez family in Pedrera, Sevilla, Spain. On the nose, it offers ‘green banana, black peppercorn and forest floor’, followed by ‘artichoke and green apple’ on the palate. The finish is ‘peppered, oily and sweet’. To serve, the brand suggests a Dirty Martini or a Bloody Mary. Both expressions are bottled at 43% ABV and retail for £49 (US$63) for a 700ml bottle.
