Joven tequila — meaning “young” in Spanish — is a category that blends unaged blanco tequila with a portion of aged reposado or añejo, often charcoal filtered, for a profile that is brighter than aged tequila while more complex than a pure blanco. Many craft producers and luxury brands use the joven style for special releases and prestige expressions where the blender can control the final character precisely.

Joven (“young” in Spanish) is a tequila category defined by blending unaged blanco with a portion of aged tequila (reposado or añejo), sometimes with charcoal filtration. The result sits between a blanco’s fresh agave brightness and an aged tequila’s oak complexity. Many prestige and luxury tequila expressions use the joven classification, including Clase Azul Gold.
Often but not always. “Gold” is a marketing term; joven is the technical NOM classification. Some gold tequilas are genuine joven blends of blanco and aged tequila. Others are mixto tequilas (less than 100% agave) colored with caramel — not the same thing. For quality, look for “100% agave” on the label regardless of color.
