Diageo Introduces 2021 Distillers Edition Collection of Scotches

Diageo has unveil its 2021 Distillers Edition bottlings in the U.S., an annual release of single malts double-matured in different casks.

Each of the six offerings uses that distillery’s core offering as the base. Thus, the Distillers Edition bottlings complement each distillery’s traditional character, while providing whisky fans a chance to explore new flavors from their of favorite distilleries.

“We’re excited to release this year’s collection of The Distillers Edition, which includes offerings from some of Diageo’s most beloved distilleries in Scotland,” says Tara King, brand director, single malt whisky at Diageo. “These rare and specially crafted single malt Scotch whiskies exuberate a unique richness, depth, complexity and nuance of flavor, due to the two step maturation process that each bottle undergoes.”

“The Distillers Edition lineup features an array of unique flavors that make it the perfect holiday gift for whisky lovers,” she adds.

Each batch of Distillers Edition goes through a process before bottling. First, ‘crocodile skin’ charred cask-ends of brand-new American Oak are prepared at a Scottish cooperage. To make the casks used for the second maturation, craftsmen combine these heavily charred new wood cask-ends with re-charred American Oak casks.

The casks are then conditioned with a fortified wine from Spain. Each wine is chosen to complement the character of one single malt.

After a month, the casks, now imbued with character from the wine they held, are disgorged and refilled with the mature single malt. To maintain consistency, this whisky comes from a single year, so each bottle can remain unique.

In the barrel the liquid rests for up to six months.

All six of the 2021 Distillers Edition bottles are now available in the U.S. at retailers nationwide. Distillers Edition bottles are also available for online purchase and home delivery at Drizly.com.
